Pakistan Reports Breakthrough After 24-Hour Iran Talks

According to a report by CBS News on Saturday, May 23, 2026, Pakistan and Iran have concluded a new round of high-level discussions described as brief but productive, according to Pakistan’s military public relations directorate, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The ISPR said the talks between Iranian officials and Pakistani mediators were conducted in a constructive atmosphere and produced meaningful progress in the mediation process between both sides.

According to the statement, “The engagements were held in a positive and constructive environment and contributed meaningfully towards the mediation process.” It added that “The intensive negotiations over the last twenty four hours have resulted in encouraging progress towards a final understanding.”

Pakistan’s delegation was led by Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, who held a series of meetings with senior Iranian officials during the engagement.

He met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Speaker of Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni as part of the diplomatic consultations.

The statement did not provide specific details on the subject matter of the discussions or the points covered during the negotiations.

However, it noted that the overall tone of the talks remained positive, with both sides expressing willingness to continue engagement toward mutual understanding and regional stability.

Iranian state-linked figures did not release additional details regarding outcomes or agreements reached during the meetings.

The ISPR maintained that the process formed part of ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at strengthening communication and reducing tensions through structured dialogue.

No public reference was made to Iran’s supreme leadership in the statement, and there was no indication of involvement from Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, who has not appeared publicly in recent weeks following reported internal developments.

Both sides are expected to maintain contact as discussions progress toward further clarification and potential agreements in the coming stages of engagement.
