Osimhen ruled out of Konyaspor trip

Victor Osimhen has been pulled from Galatasaray’s Turkish Super Lig match against Konyaspor on Saturday as a precautionary measure.

The Istanbul club revealed the decision on their official X account, citing soreness in the Nigeria international’s right knee.

The striker’s absence is likely to be limited, with his return scheduled for the second leg of Galatasaray’s UEFA Champions League knockout round play-off against Juventus F.C.

Precaution ahead of Europe. Osimhen’s exclusion appears to be deliberate rather than serious.

With a crucial European match looming, the club has decided to minimise his workload and prevent exacerbating the situation.

The 27-year-old has been crucial to Galatasaray’s recent success.

In his last ten appearances in all competitions, he has six goals and five assists.

In the Super Lig, he has contributed at least one goal in each of his last six games, scoring in five of them before delivering two assists against Eyüpspor.

His production has coincided with a successful run for the reigning Turkish champions.

Galatasaray currently leads the Super Lig league with 55 points, three ahead of second-placed Fenerbahçe.

They also lead Group A in the Turkish Cup and are still in contention for a spot in the Champions League round of 16. Saturday’s trip will test the depth of the team.

Galatasaray won the reverse encounter 3-1 in September and will look to complete a league double. Meanwhile, Konyaspor is 14th with 20 points, two points clear of the relegation zone.

Without a league win since October, they face a difficult task against the division’s leaders, even without Osimhen in the visiting lineup.
