Onuachu scores record goal to sink Rizespor as Trabzonspor maintain title pressure

Trabzonspor defeated Çaykur Rizespor 1-0 in the Turkish Süper Lig on Saturday, with Super Eagles forward Paul Onuachu scoring the game-winning goal.

The Nigerian striker’s second-half goal at Papara Park was enough to give the hosts all three points and keep them in the title chase.

Trabzonspor had to work hard to break down a disciplined Rizespor side before finally scoring early in the second half.

The pivotal moment occurred in the 51st minute, when substitute Oleksandr Zubkov delivered a pinpoint ball into the six-yard box.

Onuachu timed his run perfectly and calmly finished from close range, scoring his 21st league goal of the season.

The strike extended the Nigerian forward’s amazing goal-scoring streak to eight consecutive Süper Lig matches and ten straight games across all competitions.

Despite grabbing the lead, Trabzonspor faced late pressure from the visitors. Goalkeeper Andre Onana made two important saves in the last minutes to secure the victory.

In the 87th minute, the shot-stopper denied Frantzdy Pierrot before reacting quickly to stop Emrecan Bulut’s effort.

The triumph extended Trabzonspor’s winning streak to four games and bolstered their position near the top of the standings.

With the win, Trabzonspor now has 57 points after 26 matches, tied with Fenerbahçe in second position and seven points behind leaders Galatasaray.

Trabzonspor will now turn their attention to their next league game, away to Eyüpspor, in order to keep up the pressure on the title race.
