On Saturday, Trabzonspor defeated Samsunspor 3-0 away in the Turkish Super Lig, with Paul Onuachu turning in a monumental performance.

The Super Eagles striker scored twice at Samsun’s 19 Mayis Stadyumu, extending his successful season and cementing his place in Trabzonspor history.

His goals propelled Fatih Tekke’s club past Samsunspor, who had acquired a reputation as one of the league’s toughest opponents.

Despite the hosts’ energetic start, Trabzonspor gained control early on, with Onuachu once again playing a key role in front of goal.

The visitors took the lead in the 23rd minute as Onuachu rose to meet Ernest Muçi’s cross.

The Nigerian forward’s header took a tiny deflection off a defender before beating the goalie, giving Trabzonspor the lead.

Samsunspor attempted to counter with more pressure, but Trabzonspor maintained control and proceeded to produce clearer opportunities.

Early in the second half, Onuachu thought he had doubled his tally after scoring again in the 55th minute. However, the goal was overturned when a VAR review revealed a foul in the build-up.

Onuachu was not to be denied. In the 81st minute, he converted off a low cross from Umut Nayir, restoring Trabzonspor’s two-goal lead and effectively destroying the hosts’ hopes of a comeback.

After scoring his second goal, the striker was replaced by Okay Yokuşlu. Muçi converted a penalty in stoppage time to give his team a 3-0 victory.

According to Opta Can, Onuachu has became the first foreign player in Trabzonspor history to score in both league matches against Samsunspor during the same Super Lig season.

The 29-year-old also leads the Super Lig scoring table with 15 goals and has the highest goal conversion rate among players with at least five league goals.

The victory keeps Trabzonspor in third place, four points behind leaders Galatasaray, who still have a game in hand.
