Obi Cubana Apologizes to Ndi Igbo Over ‘Lack of Knowledge’ Remark (Video)

Speaking at a March 11 gathering where he launched the “City Boy Movement” in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the South-East, Obi Cubana stated that Ndi Igbo “lack knowledge” a comment that quickly sparked widespread criticism across social and political circles.

Many critics interpreted the statement as demeaning to the Igbo people, a group widely recognized for their entrepreneurial spirit and educational achievements. The backlash intensified online, with commentators accusing the businessman of undermining his own community.

In response, Obi Cubana appeared on BBC Igbo on Monday, where he expressed regret over the controversy. He clarified that his comments were taken out of context and were intended to encourage greater political awareness and participation among Igbo people.

“I did not mean to insult Ndi Igbo,” he said, emphasizing that his message was about the need for stronger political engagement rather than a critique of intelligence or capability.

Reactions to the apology have been mixed. While some community members have accepted his explanation and commended him for addressing the issue, others remain critical, arguing that the remarks reflect deeper concerns about political rhetoric and ethnic sensitivity in Nigeria.

The incident highlights ongoing tensions in the country’s political landscape, where ethnic identity and regional interests often shape public discourse and reactions.
