NSCDC confirms attack of its checkpoint in Niger state by bandits

An att_ck on its checkpoint along the Wawa–Babanla Road in Borgu Local Government Area has been confirmed by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Niger State Command.

The incident happened early on Monday, December 22, 2025, between 12:28 and 1:00 a.m., according to a statement released by Abubakar Muti, the command’s public relations officer.

The statement claims that a number of heavily armed bandits stormed the checkpoint and started shooting at the on-duty officers. According to reports, the personnel withdrew tactically from the area and managed to escape unscathed.

According to reports, the attackers stole one G3 rifle, deflated the tires of an operational Hilux car, and stole the officers’ personal belongings.

The checkpoint is located about three kilometres from Wawa town and approximately nine kilometres from the 221 Armoured Brigade Barracks.

Muti confirmed that no casualties were recorded during the attack, adding that the NSCDC has begun working with other security agencies to track down the perpetrators and restore security in the area.

The command reassured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property across Niger State.
