According to a viral video shared on social media on Wednesday May 28, 2026, some northern youths publicly burned a banner carrying the image of former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and the emblem of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
During the incident, the youths were heard chanting “ba ma yi,” a popular Hausa slogan used to reject political support. They also accused Kwankwaso of betraying northern interests following recent political developments linked to the 2027 general elections.
The action follows reports that Kwankwaso may emerge as the presidential candidate of the NDC with former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, expected to serve as his running mate.
Both politicians were previously associated with the opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) before their reported defection to the NDC, a move that has continued to spark political conversations across the country.
Some analysts believe the opposition coalition may have suffered a setback following the departure of major political figures from the ADC, while others argue the new alliance could reshape the political landscape ahead of 2027.
Meanwhile, many northern opposition stakeholders are still believed to be aligned with the ADC as consultations and political negotiations continue nationwide.
The video has continued to circulate widely online, generating reactions from supporters and critics of the affected politicians.
