
A Nigerian woman was found guilty by the Ashanti Regional Police Command of injuring her nine-year-old daughter in Duase, Ghana’s Ashanti Region, close to Kenyasi.
The Circuit Court at Tafo in Kumasi sentenced Beauty Alakwe, 34, to 15 months in prison with hard labor and a fine of 6,000 Ghanaian cedis on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.
She was remanded to Central Prisons, Kumasi, to serve her sentence because she neglected to pay the fine.
The case started on November 22 after a local resident reported the a_$ault with help from the local Assembly member.
The Tafo-Pankrono Division’s Kenyasi District Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) conducted investigations.
In order to guarantee the welfare and reunification of the victim and her nine-year-old brother with their family in Nigeria, the court further ordered the Department of Social Welfare, Mamponteng, to collaborate with the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command emphasized its commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable people while reiterating its opposition to mob justice and thanking the public for their cooperation in the investigation.
