Nigerian woman calls out Union Bank over alleged $790 unauthorised deduction

A Nigerian woman has publicly called out Union Bank, alleging that the bank deducted $790 from her account without her authorisation.

The woman made the allegation in a viral video, where she appealed to the bank to investigate the disputed transaction and refund the money.

Woman recounts alleged unauthorised deduction

According to her, the alleged deduction occurred on August 12, 2026, while she was in Egypt.

She claimed that she had never linked her bank card to any online platform that could have authorised the transaction.

She also said she does not use her card for online shopping and had not given it to anyone to make purchases on her behalf.

Speaking in the video, she said:

“Hello everyone, I never knew that a day would come when I would call out a particular bank. Oh, to be very honest, Nigeria is really happening to everybody. But me, I’m not going to let Union Bank ride on me.

I’m here to call out Union Bank. On the 12th of August 2026, Union Bank debited me of $790. I did not attach, I’m stating out, I did not attach my card to any online platform.

I do not for any reason use my card to shop. I use personal shoppers to shop. Three, I did not keep my card anywhere that you would say maybe a child or a brother or a sister or a friend used my card to place in an online thing to pay for anything.”

The woman said she contacted Union Bank several times after discovering the alleged deduction.

She claimed that she sent numerous emails to the bank but was repeatedly asked to wait for responses.

She said:

On the 12th of August, I was presently in Egypt and I wanted to, I wanted to pay for the food that I ate. After I finished eating, I told them to swipe the card because they gave me my receipt. They swiped the card and I noticed that the payment did not go through three times. Insufficient fund. I told them give me the card back and then I moved aside. I tried to call my account officer on WhatsApp. She finally picked. I was like what’s going on with my account? Can I get my current balance? She was like your current balance is seven dollars. I was like seven dollars. She said yes. Now, mind you, most of the debits did not come through to my phone. It was just going bit by bit. Wherever they did the transaction, I do not know. And then she said my current balance is seven dollars. I was like I had seven hundred and ninety dollars. She said yes. You had it as at yesterday which was the 11th of August, not even on that day.

She alleged that the situation left her stranded and forced her to use the little cash she had to pay for her food.

She also claimed that she continued communicating with her account officer while demanding that the alleged missing funds be returned.

The woman said:

“I have been to the bank yesterday presently 31st of August 2026 and they told me that there is nothing that they can do because this particular payment I told I made the particular payment and I was like what are you talking about?

Are you putting it to me that I was the one that made this payment because I did not for any reason attach my card to anything and I am here to tell you guys that whatever games you guys are trying to play don’t bring it on me. Don’t try it. I’m here to call out Union Bank to freaking give me my seven hundred and ninety dollars.”

Woman alleges transaction was linked to Google Ads

The woman further alleged that the disputed transaction was connected to Google Ads.

She also referenced another alleged complaint involving Access Bank, claiming that the circumstances were similar.

She concluded by demanding that Union Bank refund the $790 she alleges was deducted from her account.

“People are putting it to me that I attached my card. I’m not a fool. Look at me very well. You guys should freaking give me my seven hundred and ninety dollars because this whole thing is going to go on for a very long time if you guys don’t attend to me. Thank you very much.”

The allegations have not been independently verified, and it was not immediately clear from the account whether Union Bank had issued a response to the woman’s claims.
