Abubakar Mohammed El-Jummah, a lecturer at the Nigerian Army University in Biu, Borno State, has been captured by Boko Haram. On March 2, 2025, the professor was kidnapped along Damaturu-Big Road.
On Wednesday, February 11, 2026, family members released a statement announcing his passing and expressing their profound sadness for the loss.
The professor died early in the morning, at around 2:45 a.m., according to the family. following a brief sickness allegedly brought on by the suffering he suffered at the hands of his kidnappers.
Since then, he has been laid to rest according to Islamic customs.
On Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., Salat al-Ghaib (funeral prayer in absentia) would take place in the Ngomari Old Airport Juma’at Mosque besides his Maiduguri home.
Many students and colleagues were influenced by the late academic’s contributions to education and community development, which were characterised as those of a great scholar, mentor, and man of integrity.
His death has been characterised as a profound loss for his family, the community at the University of Maiduguri, and society at large.
