American rapper Nicki Minaj has followed Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi on X, shortly after reposting his statement on the reported killings and abductions in Niger State.

A check reported by Nigerian media showed that Obi was the only 2027 presidential candidate followed by the rapper on the platform at the time.

Minaj’s decision to follow Obi came shortly after she reposted a statement shared by the former Anambra State governor concerning the security situation in Niger State.

In the statement, Obi condemned the reported killings and abductions, describing the situation as a systematic devaluation of human life.

He also called for intelligence-led action against criminal networks responsible for attacks and abductions across the country.

Minaj’s repost and subsequent follow of Obi have generated reactions among Nigerians and social media users in the diaspora, with discussions focusing on the international rapper’s decision to amplify Obi’s comments on insecurity.

The development comes as Obi prepares for the 2027 presidential election as the NDC candidate. He was unveiled as the party’s presidential candidate in May 2026.
