New Explosions Rock Tehran as Iran, Israel Exchange Strikes

According to a report by Anadolu Agency on Monday, June 8, 2026, a fresh wave of explosions shook parts of Tehran on Monday as military tensions between Iran and Israel continued to escalate, with both sides carrying out renewed air and missile attacks across multiple locations.

Iran’s state-run broadcaster IRIB reported that loud explosions were heard in western parts of the capital, adding that air defense systems were immediately activated in response to what officials described as incoming threats. The broadcaster did not provide immediate details on the source or impact of the blasts.

In a separate development, air defense systems were also activated in the western Iranian city of Kermanshah, according to local media outlet Khabar Fouri, which reported the incident via its Telegram channel. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the activation was linked to incoming projectiles or aerial incursions.

Meanwhile, Israel’s public broadcaster KAN released footage it said showed an Israeli airstrike targeting military infrastructure in southern Tehran. The video was aired shortly after the Israeli military announced that its air force had concluded what it described as a “large-scale strike” against strategic defense systems belonging to the Iranian state.

The Israeli army stated that its warplanes had carried out coordinated attacks on key military assets, though it did not provide precise details regarding the locations or extent of damage inflicted during the operation. Independent verification of the claims has not been made available.

The latest exchange of attacks follows a sharp escalation that began on Sunday, when Israel conducted airstrikes on Beirut, despite an existing ceasefire agreement in Lebanon. The strikes triggered a chain of retaliatory actions, with Iran launching missiles toward northern Israel in response.

Israel subsequently responded with multiple waves of airstrikes targeting sites inside Iran, further intensifying fears of a widening regional conflict involving several fronts.

Tensions across the Middle East have remained high since late February, when the United States and Israel launched coordinated airstrikes against Iranian-linked targets. Tehran retaliated with attacks on Israel and other regional countries hosting US military assets, deepening an already volatile security environment.

Although a temporary ceasefire was brokered on April 8 through international mediation, the agreement has struggled to hold. Negotiations aimed at maintaining the truce have stalled due to disagreements over implementation and continued military activity on the ground.
