According to a report by the Times of Israel on Sunday May 24, 2026, for the first time, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has spoken out about the possible US-Iran deal, stating that Trump had promised him that, regardless of the final deal, Iran’s nuclear program will be eliminated.
The planned memorandum associated with reopening the Strait of Hormuz and the subsequent negotiations over Iran’s nuclear activities were discussed during a conversation between Netanyahu and Trump, according to a statement released on X.
Netanyahu claims that the two heads of state reached a consensus that any lasting deal must eradicate what he called the “irreconcilable nuclear threat” posed by Iran.
It is still not clear whether Trump specifically pledged to those particular terms during the talk, but he did say that destroying enrichment facilities and removing enriched uranium from Iranian territory would be part of it.
Even while diplomatic attempts have been ongoing, Netanyahu claimed that Trump has reinforced Israel’s right to respond to threats in the area, particularly in Lebanon, where tensions between factions backed by Iran are high.
In light of ongoing speculation that Tehran is fighting efforts to incorporate nuclear limitations into the preliminary agreement presently being debated, the comments are quite significant. Reports indicate that Iranian authorities would rather save discussions on those topics for when a formal agreement is in the works.
Additionally, US and Iranian officials have hinted that a 60-day ceasefire might also involve a pause in Hezbollah-related violence in Lebanon.
At the end of his speech, Netanyahu thanked Trump for the American president’s “unwavering dedication” to the security of Israel.
