Supporters of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara took to the streets of Port Harcourt on Wednesday night, singing political songs directed at Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike.
The supporters were observed walking through portions of the state capital, grabbing the attention of residents as they loudly chanted songs in support of Governor Fubara.
A video of the street procession has already gone popular on social media, eliciting numerous emotions.
In the video, fans can be heard insulting the former Rivers governor, claiming that his authority has expired in the state.
The video was shared alongside the song titled “Na Minister you be, you no be God”.
Throughout the procession, supporters freely sung in pidgin English, emphasising that Wike is no longer the governor of Rivers state.
They chanted: “Wike oh, Na Minister u be oh, you no be God, Wike oh, Na Minister u be oh, Na Fubara be governor.”
Another chant heard in the video went:
“Wike oh, Na Minister you be oh, Na Fubara be governor. Wike you no be God”
The demonstrators appeared to be sending a clear message to the FCT Minister, encouraging him to focus on his federal responsibilities rather than interfering with Rivers State concerns.
Despite continued political problems, they believe Siminalayi Fubara is the state’s legal governor.
The public protest coincides with growing political hostility between Nyesom Wike and his replacement, Governor Fubara.
The once-close political partners have been embroiled in a protracted power battle that has dominated political discourse in Rivers State.
