A Nigerian woman has sought advice online after a disagreement with her husband, who allegedly demanded that her younger sister leave their home after she refused to take over the household chores of his twin sons.
The story was shared on Facebook by Eunice Obaro Pen-Ogbolu, who narrated the experience of a woman married as her husband’s second wife.
‘I Married My Husband as His Second Wife’
According to the account, the woman’s husband has 10-year-old twin sons from his late wife.
After joining the family, she said she tried to teach the boys basic household responsibilities but claimed her husband considered her approach too strict.
She recalled that one morning, after her husband had left for work, she instructed the boys to remain at home because they had not completed their chores.
“One morning, after my husband left for work, I told his sons to stay back from school because they hadn’t completed their chores,” she wrote.
However, the situation reportedly changed when her husband returned home to pick up something he had forgotten.
He was allegedly unhappy to find the boys still at home and personally took them to school without consulting his wife.
‘My Husband Started Doing All Their Chores’
The woman said her husband subsequently began handling all the household chores assigned to his sons himself.
“From that day onward, my husband started waking up early every morning and doing all their chores himself,” she stated.
She later gave birth to a baby, after which her younger sister reportedly came to stay with the family to assist her during her postpartum recovery.
‘My Sister Came to Help Me With the Baby’
According to the woman, her husband stopped doing his sons’ chores after her sister arrived and began expecting the younger woman to take over the responsibilities.
She said she reminded him that her sister had come specifically to help her care for the baby and recover from childbirth, rather than serve as a housekeeper for his children.
“I reminded him that my sister came to help me with the baby, not to become a housekeeper for his sons,” she wrote.
The disagreement allegedly angered her husband, who subsequently demanded that her sister leave the house.
‘I Stood My Ground and Refused’
The woman said she refused to allow her sister to leave, maintaining that she had come to support her during her recovery.
“I stood my ground and refused,” she stated.
She claimed that her husband has since stopped speaking to her and has been giving her the silent treatment.
“Since then, my husband has been giving me the silent treatment and refuses to speak to me,” she wrote.
‘Was I Wrong?’
The woman admitted that she was uncertain about how best to handle the situation and questioned whether she should have allowed her sister to help with the boys’ chores to avoid further conflict.
“Honestly, I don’t even know what to do anymore. Was I wrong to stand my ground, or should I have allowed my sister to help with his son’s chores to keep the peace?” she asked.
She concluded by seeking advice from social media users:
“What would you do if you were in my shoes?”
The story has sparked discussion online about blended families, household responsibilities, boundaries, postpartum support and the expectations placed on relatives who stay with married couples to offer assistance.
