A Nigerian mother has revealed an amazing delivery experience that has elicited considerable social media response.

Despite being planned for a caesarean surgery the next day, she was able to deliver a 6kg baby vaginally after 10 hours of labour.

The story, which surfaced online on Tuesday, has been labelled as strange by many due to the baby’s extremely high birth weight and the lack of tears during the delivery.

“My 6kg baby successfully delivered through vaginal delivery after 10 hours labour, I was booked for c section the following day but my baby arrived safely this night without any single tear,” she said.

According to health experts, such situations are exceptional, as newborns of that weight are typically delivered surgically owing to potential difficulties.

Similar odd birthing occurrences have been noted in past years, including a 2019 hospital report in Lagos where a mother gave birth to a 5.8kg baby via caesarean section following a protracted labour.

Experts continue to advocate for good antenatal care and medical supervision throughout pregnancy to decrease the dangers associated with large birth weight births.

“I didn’t expect it to happen naturally, especially after doctors already booked me for surgery. Everything just changed that night and my baby came safely. Don’t hold back your congratulations… you’re next,” she added.
