“My 14-year-old brother was picked during a police raid and has been in Kirikiri since 2023 despite committing no offence” — lady cries out

A lady has made a public appeal for help over the continued detention of her younger brother, whom she said was arrested at the age of 14 during a police raid in 2023.

According to her, the family initially believed the teenager was missing before later discovering that he had been detained alongside several others during the operation.

She alleged that while others arrested during the raid were eventually released, her brother remained in custody and was later transferred to Kirikiri Medium Security Custodial Centre in Mile 2, Lagos State.

The woman further claimed that a police officer reportedly testified in court that her brother committed no offence, yet the case has faced repeated adjournments since 2023.

She also alleged that the family was asked to provide ₦150,000 for bail but has been unable to raise the amount.

According to her, the boy was still a child when the ordeal began and is now approaching the age of 17, a situation that has sparked sympathy and concern online over prolonged detention and access to justice for minors.
