In a Facebook post that has since gone viral, the priest clarified that the commandment “Thou shall not commit adultery” is interpreted by Catholic doctrine more broadly than just marital infidelity.
According to Fr. Ugwu, the Church officially classifies practices such as masturbation, lust, contraceptive use, and Assisted Reproductive Technology — including In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) — as sins under the Sixth Commandment.
The post quickly generated mixed reactions online, with many social media users debating the Church’s teachings, modern social values, and reproductive practices. While some Catholics defended the priest’s explanation as consistent with established doctrine, others questioned or criticized aspects of the teaching, particularly regarding contraception and IVF.
