A Nigerian man has raised concerns over five potential economic challenges Nigerians could face if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu secures a second term in office in the 2027 presidential election.
In a video circulating on X, formerly Twitter, the man outlined his concerns, pointing to possible changes in electricity subsidies, a proposed 5 per cent fuel surcharge, tax policies, environmental levies on imported vehicles, and a potential increase in petrol prices.
He expressed fears that electricity costs could rise if subsidies are withdrawn after the election, leaving households and businesses to bear higher bills.
The man also warned that the introduction of a 5 per cent surcharge on fuel could further increase transportation and other fuel-related expenses for motorists and commuters.
Speaking about taxation, he claimed that an individual with ₦2.2 million in savings could be required to pay ₦300,000 in taxes. However, he did not provide supporting evidence or explain how he arrived at the figure.
He further raised concerns about possible environmental charges on imported vehicles, suggesting that the amount payable could depend on engine capacity, with vehicles fitted with larger engines potentially attracting higher fees.
In addition, he predicted that petrol prices could climb to ₦2,000 per litre, a development he believes would intensify the financial pressure on Nigerians already grappling with rising living costs.
According to the man, the potential consequences of these developments could affect Nigerians across political divides, regardless of their preferred candidates or party affiliations.
His remarks have generated interest amid growing public attention on economic policies and the cost of living ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
However, the claims regarding the proposed charges, tax calculations and projected petrol prices have not been independently verified and should not be treated as confirmed government policies or established future outcomes.
