Rashidat Anjorin, a Nollywood actress and filmmaker, has spoken out about her painful battle with loneliness, revealing that she suffered from severe depression and considered suicide.
Speaking during an appearance on the Talk to B podcast, the actress, popularly known as Indomie, said extended isolation pushed her into a terrible mental condition and left her struggling to cope.
According to Anjorin, there was a moment when she disappeared for three days because she was overcome by melancholy and wanted to “end it all.”
“Being alone is a disease except for those who don’t know. I was so depressed that for three days I was missing and nowhere to be found. I wanted to end it all,” she said.
The actress explained that her urgent quest for company prompted her to approach a man romantically, which she had never done before.
“When someone dies, it takes six people to carry the coffin. If those six people are in your life to support your progress, then you understand why companionship matters. Everything is not about money,” she said.
Anjorin also spoke about some of the difficulties she had before achieving stability, including an event in which she was detained by police despite being the victim of theft.
“It was my money they stole, and it was me that was kept in the cell,” she recalled.
The filmmaker thanked various colleagues who helped her through difficult times, particularly actress and producer Funke Akindele.
She said that Akindele provided her money to restart her business, allowing her to purchase cooking supplies and begin selling noodles.
“Aunty Funke gave me money to go and buy those things. I went to Abeokuta to get my pots, and I started making sales. Once I start cooking the noodles, everyone will start buying,” she said.
Anjorin also praised Taiwo Adebayo, Sodiq Adebayo, and Blackman for their assistance, stating they played important roles in her career and contributed to her success in the film industry.
