Tanko Habila, father of the late Miss Mary Habila, the nurse who d!ed at the Ebonyi residence of the Minister of Works on June 27, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), demanding the immediate release of her remains for burial.

Mr. Habila, accompanied by his wife, other family members and their lawyers, addressed journalists shortly after submitting the petition at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Friday, July 17.

Speaking through his lawyer, the grieving father expressed disappointment that nearly two weeks after his daughter’s d3ath, the Ebonyi State Police Command had yet to release her body to the family.

According to him, the family is not interested in an autopsy and only wants her remains released for a dignified burial.

“As we are standing here, somebody can fall and d!e. It has happened. All we want is her body to be buried.”

Meanwhile, the Minister of Works, David Umahi, has petitioned the Ebonyi State Police Command, urging it not to release Habila’s body until a post-mortem examination is conducted.

In a letter signed by his lawyer, Roy Nwaeze, Umahi maintained that an autopsy is necessary to determine the actual cause and circumstances surrounding her d3ath.

Late Mary Habila, an employee of the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital, d!ed on June 27 while serving as part of the minister’s medical team.

Her d3ath has attracted widespread public attention, with many calling for a thorough and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
