Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has confirmed that a military plane crashed in Igbokoda, Ondo State, after it vanished from radar while traveling from Benin to Lagos.
The Minister said in a statement that the aircraft, carrying 32 people, vanished at approximately 9:13 am after air traffic controllers lost contact with it. He stated that the rescue effort is still in progress.
I regret to notify the public that a military aircraft with tail number NGR 931 vanished earlier today at 09:13 while traveling from Benin to Lagos, according to Air Traffic Controllers. Every attempt to raise the aircraft via radio was unsuccessful.
However, later reports verified that the military plane had crashed near the Naval Base in Igbokoda, Ondo State. Search and rescue efforts are still underway, and the wreckage has been located.
According to preliminary data, there were seven crew members and twenty-five passengers on board.
Even though the Ministry of Aviation and the Civil Aviation Authority have no control over military aircraft, I recently spoke with Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, the Chief of Air Staff, and we promised to fully cooperate and support the ongoing search and rescue efforts.
