Judy Austin, a Nollywood actress, has generated outrage online after asking a question about Igbo culture and traditions.

The actress turned to Instagram to enquire if it is appropriate for a woman who has not been granted an Igbo title to wear a red cap, which is typically associated with titled men.

“Is it proper for a woman with no Igbo title to wear a red cap? I mean the red cap our titled men wear. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think it is an insult to our culture and tradition,” she wrote.

The post comes just weeks after Judy Austin came out against people who regularly pray for the dissolution of marriages and families, claiming that many are overwhelmed by negativity.

The mother of five had previously advised women to be intentional in their relationships if they wanted a successful marriage.

Her most recent comment has elicited conflicting reactions online, with social media users arguing the cultural significance of the red cap in Igbo heritage and whether it should be worn by women without traditional titles.
