Former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha has spoken about why the Supreme Court declared Hope Uzodinma governor in 2020 after Uzodinma initially finished in fourth place in the 2019 governorship election
In an interview with Channels Television, Okorocha alleged that the results from 388 polling units, which Uzodinma relied on in his court case, were written by one person. He said the police adopted the documents and presented them to the court, but nobody challenged their authenticity during the proceedings.
Okorocha explained that because the documents were not disputed, the judges had to rely on the evidence before them. He therefore argued that the judiciary did not favour Uzodinma but was limited by the documents presented and the failure of opposing parties to challenge them.
Okorocha added that the results are preserved in official archives and could still be examined.
In Okorocha’s words: “That is the same way they wrote 388 booths results, by one person. But because the police adopted it and presented it to the court, and there was nobody that argued against that presentation of those 388 when he became governor from number 4 to number 1, the hands of the judges were tied. So, it is not true that judiciary in anyway favoured Hope, but it was because the hands of the judges were tied based on the facts of documents provided, for which nobody argued against”
