Bello Abubakar, a resident of the Yar Gabas area of Sokoto metropolis, narrated that his wife allegedly poured hot oil on his private parts after accusing him of speaking with another woman on the phone.

According to Daily Trust, he however denied the accusation, maintaining that he was not involved in any inappropriate relationship with any woman.

According to him, he believed that the incident might be linked to what he described as a spiritual condition affecting his wife, noting that she had been dealing with certain issues in recent times.

While giving a detailed account of what happened, Abubakar explained that the incident occurred after he returned from the mosque. He stated that he had left his house early in the morning to observe the Subhi prayer and ended up sleeping there afterward. He added that he later woke up at about 8 a.m. and made his way back home.

He further recounted that upon his arrival, he met his wife crying. He said he became concerned and asked her what the problem was, but she refused to respond or explain the reason for her distress.

Further talking, he said, “I then performed ablution and started reciting the Qur’an, before I was called to the office to go and repair an electric appliance there. As I was about to leave, she asked me to wait for her.

“I was lying on the bed naked when she came in holding a cup containing melted butter. I didn’t suspect there was anything harmful in it, because whenever her condition relapses, she usually takes a cup to pray over water and drink.

“Suddenly, I felt something hot on my private part and I screamed. When I checked my hand, it was already burnt too.”

Bello Abubakar stated that he had sustained severe burns as a result of the hot butter that was poured on his body. He added that his condition was gradually improving, attributing this to the medical care he was receiving at a Specialist Hospital in Sokoto.

A senior brother of the victim, Tasiu Abubakar, explained that the couple had been living peacefully prior to the incident. However, he noted that the woman’s mother had previously opposed the marriage, which raised suspicions in his mind that she might have influenced her daughter’s actions.

He further stated that both families had agreed to resolve the matter amicably and had decided not to pursue any legal action concerning the incident.

Attempts to get a response from the wife or her relatives were unsuccessful, as they could not be reached for comments.

Meanwhile, the police spokesperson in the state, DSP Ahmad Rufai, said that he would look into the case and provide further details later, but he had not responded with any updates as of the time the report was filed.
