A Nigerian tenant has expressed shock after reportedly discovering that a deceased relative of his landlord had been buried beneath the living room of the house he had been renting for more than a year.
The man shared his experience on X, revealing that he only learned about the burial after members of his landlord’s family recently visited the property to inform him that they intended to exhume the body.
Tenant says he knew nothing about burial
According to the tenant, he was the first person to occupy the newly built house and had lived there for more than a year without knowing that a corpse had been buried beneath the floor.
He said the landlord’s family informed him that the deceased was the landlord’s father and that they had decided to relocate the remains to another burial site.
Sharing his experience online, he wrote:> “I rented a house that someone was buried inside the living room and I didn't know. > > “My landlord's family came around today and told me they want to move their dead brother who apparently is the father of my landlord. > > “He was buried right in my living room and I was not aware until they came around today. > > “Telling me they want to exhume the corpse and move it to another place they've prepared and they will repair my sitting room back. > > “Now I'm shocked that I've been living and sleeping above a burial ground for a year plus now, meanwhile the house is a new house and I was the first tenant.”
Tenant had recently renewed rent
The discovery reportedly came just one month after the tenant renewed his rent, leaving him uncertain about what to do next.
He said the unexpected revelation had left him particularly shocked because he had assumed he was simply living in a newly constructed house.
Corpse reportedly exhumed
In a subsequent update, the tenant revealed that the coffin was eventually exhumed on Sunday, October 4.
He also shared an image depicting a coffin being dug out from the ground.
The unusual revelation has generated reactions online, with social media users discussing the landlord’s alleged failure to disclose the burial and the implications of discovering human remains beneath a rented property.
