Iran has said it has received signals from the United States indicating readiness for renewed talks aimed at ending the ongoing conflict, but noted that a major deadlock still exists over enriched nuclear material.
The report, published by Al Jazeera English on 16 May 2026, stated that Iranian officials confirmed receiving communication linked to possible new negotiations, although key disagreements remain unresolved.
According to the report, the main sticking point between both sides is Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium, with Washington continuing to demand tighter controls or removal as part of any agreement.
Tehran, however, insists on retaining aspects of its civilian nuclear programme, while pushing for guarantees and phased arrangements under any future deal framework.
US President Donald Trump has reportedly suggested a possible long pause on Iran’s civilian nuclear programme, provided that any commitments made by Tehran are considered credible and verifiable.
