According to a report by the Times of Israel on Saturday July 18, 2026, Iran says it has halted its obligations under the memorandum of understanding signed with the United States last month, citing the renewed military confrontation between the two countries.

Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi announced that Tehran had suspended implementation of the agreement, arguing that Washington had already failed to uphold its own commitments under the deal.

In remarks carried by the Iranian news outlet Fars, Gharibabadi said, “We have also suspended our commitments; we are not implementing them, and we are busy defending the country.”

He also accused the United States of abandoning its obligations under what he referred to as the Islamabad memorandum of understanding, saying Tehran’s decision was a direct response to those alleged violations.

The announcement comes as hostilities between Iran and the United States continue to intensify, with both sides carrying out strikes against military and strategic infrastructure across the region.

Iran’s decision to suspend its commitments signals another setback for efforts to preserve the agreement, as the widening conflict further diminishes prospects for diplomatic engagement in the near future.
