US President Donald Trump states that he considers the Strait of Hormuz to be “American territory” and reiterates that Iran must never acquire a nuclear weapon.
The new US sanctions against Iran, according to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei, are a “declaration of war” against all governments and go far beyond an unlawful economic war on a single country.
Georgia has stated that its international political actions are solely driven by national interests and has declined to join the most recent sanctions imposed by the European Union against Iran.
More than 15 million barrels of oil and other products were shipped out of the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday with the assistance of the US military, according to US Energy Secretary Chris Wright. Today, an average of eight million barrels pass through the waterway every day.
Since Iran blocked the waterway in late February, the United Nations International Maritime Organization reports that as of Friday, there have been 68 incidents and 19 seafarer deaths in the Strait of Hormuz.
