A nurse at Uwani General Hospital has been suspended indefinitely and stripped of her professional responsibilities after going viral for drawing attention to the facility’s subpar circumstances.
The nurse garnered notoriety online after sharing a video that revealed the hospital’s lack of essential supplies, such as oxygen, electricity, and water, which she claimed made it very challenging to appropriately handle life-threatening medical circumstances.
Many Nigerians were outraged by her article and demanded immediate government action to fix the deteriorating infrastructure and guarantee patient and healthcare staff safety.
The nurse expressed sadness about the penalty in a video that was made public following her suspension. She insisted that her goals were to raise awareness of the pressing problems at the hospital rather than to overthrow the government.
Read what she said below;
“I’m the girl that posted about the hospital at Uwani about the light issues. Sadly, I was given an indefinite suspension. And now I was removed from my clinical duties. Now I want to ask Nigerians: Did they do anything wrong? They never posted their video to bring the government down or to paint them bad. Only did that to bring their attention, which luckily have been attended. I am so broken Nigerians. I didn’t know that my goodness would be punishing me so badly.”
Strong internet reactions to the suspension have resulted in calls for the nurse’s prompt reinstatement.
