Igbinedion Education Centre in Benin City has expelled several students after a viral video surfaced showing a student being violently bullied inside a classroom.
The troubling footage, which spread rapidly across social media, captured the victim being whipped, punched, kicked in the stomach, and stomped on the head and ribs by other students. In a statement issued on Friday night, the school’s management said those responsible had been identified and expelled after an immediate internal investigation.
The institution described the incident as shocking and unacceptable, noting that the actions of the students involved went against the school’s principles and code of conduct. The management reiterated that the school operates a strict zero-tolerance policy against bullying, cultism, intimidation, harassment, and any form of violence among students.
According to the statement, ensuring the safety and welfare of students remains the school’s top priority. The management also confirmed that assistance is being provided to the affected student while the school continues to work with the family to handle the situation.
The matter has also been reported to authorities, and the school stated it is fully cooperating with the police since the students involved are minors.
Meanwhile, the Edo State Police Command has asked the victim and his parents to formally report the incident to enable a proper investigation.
Police spokesperson Eno Ikoedem said officers have seen the circulating video but require an official complaint from the victim’s family before launching a full investigation into the case.
