A social media post denouncing wedding reception activities that demand guests to pay money has stirred significant outrage online, with many Nigerians expressing their opinions on the practice.
The tweet, published by a user named Matt, expressed annoyance with wedding activities frequently planned by masters of ceremonies (MCs), particularly games in which attendees pay money to retrieve personal belongings.

“All these yeye wedding games that involve billing, avoid them please.
“What do you mean bridesmaids should come and collect my shoe, then I’ll use 200k to bail the shoe!
“How much is the shoe in the first place?” he wrote.
The message soon gained traction, with many either agreeing with the statement or defending the tradition as part of wedding entertainment.
One user, Obiadohtv, remarked that he would rather give up his shoe than pay to have it back.
“I’ll just hand you the shoe and work barefoot. I am aware of my embarrassment, as are the residents of my compound,” he stated.
Victor disagreed with the critique, stating that close friends should be willing to help make a wedding unforgettable.
“Forget that thing. Na because say you no get money. Watim be 200k wey you nur fit afford? If your friend is really dear to you, you will go to any length to make the day memorable,” he commented.
Another user, EkyDorlyn, strongly supported the original post, saying the message deserved wider publicity.
