“If you don’t know the full content, don’t accept it” — NDLEA warns Nigerians against accepting consignments from Abroad

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has warned Nigerians against accepting consignments from relatives, friends or acquaintances abroad without knowing exactly what the packages contain.

The agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, issued the warning following what he described as an emerging trend involving illicit drugs allegedly concealed in consolidated cargoes sent to Nigeria.

NDLEA Raises Alarm Over Consolidated Cargoes

In a post shared on X on Sunday, September 13, Babafemi said some Nigerians living abroad were allegedly sending consolidated cargoes containing illicit d√ugs, particularly strains of c@nnabis known as Colorado and Loud, to family members and friends in Nigeria.

According to him, unsuspecting recipients are sometimes listed as the consignees or recipients of the consignments, potentially exposing them to arrest and prosecution despite allegedly being unaware of the contents.

Babafemi therefore advised Nigerians who are not involved in d√ug trafficking syndicates to exercise caution and avoid accepting consignments on behalf of people abroad when they are uncertain about what the packages contain.

NDLEA Warns Against Receiving Unknown Packages

The agency spokesperson stressed that accepting a package without knowing its contents could expose an unsuspecting recipient to serious legal consequences.

He urged Nigerians to heed the warning, particularly those receiving consolidated cargoes sent by relatives or friends overseas.

‘’RED ALERT! The new thing now is that some of our ‘abroad’ people are sending home consolidated cargoes contaminated with illicit d√ugs especially Colorado and Loud, putting their family members and friends as consignees or recipients.

The warning here is, if you’re not part of the syndicate, don’t accept to receive consignments on behalf of your ‘abroad’ brother or sister or friend particularly if you don’t know the full content of the consignment.

Many are already behind bars for this and the number keeps increasing with daily operations by @ndlea_nigeria officers. Please heed this warning and save yourself of the jail experience”

The warning comes as the NDLEA continues its operations against drug trafficking and the movement of illicit substances into the country.

The agency urged members of the public to exercise caution when receiving packages from abroad and to avoid allowing their names or addresses to be used for consignments whose contents they cannot verify.
