“If I’m to turn the hand of time, I’ll not get married yet. I’ll make money first” — Young mother advice single ladies

A young mother has advised unmarried women to ensure they have a consistent source of income before marrying.

She shared her personal experience and warned that financial dependence on a spouse could become a problem during marital fights.

Don’t get into marriage without having something you’re doing, a source of income because no matter how that man is doing everything for you, there will be one day when you guys have a misunderstanding, he might use that against you. He might decide that he will not give you money or he’ll use it to insult you,” she said.

The woman added that if she had the chance to make the decision again, she would have prioritised gaining money above settling down.

She stated that her current financial status makes it tough for her to maintain her family, particularly as the first daughter with numerous responsibilities.

So if I’m to turn the hand of time, I’ll not get married yet, I’ll make money. As a first daughter of my family, I have a lot of responsibilities and right now my mom is going through a lot and I just can’t help her,” she said.

She also admitted that her financial difficulties have harmed her connection with her siblings because she is afraid they may ask for financial assistance she cannot afford.

They may misinterpret her situation and believe she is being stingy, she claims.

For a while now I haven’t even talked to my siblings. Why? Because I’m like what if they ask me for financial support. To them they’ll not know that I don’t have, they’ll think I’m being stingy,” she said.

Encouraging single women to focus on financial independence, she added: “If you’re a single lady take that serious. Try and find your purpose. Make money first. Don’t say I’ll strive in marriage. It’s more easy to make money when you’re a single person than when you have kids.”
