Despite accusations and complaints about the monarch, social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has provided an explanation for his visit to the Oba of Iwo in Osun State, who recently bestowed upon him a chieftaincy title (Atayese) in Iwoland.

In a video that went viral online, VDM said that the monarch had been accused by many of funding terrorists and bandits, which led him to travel and get his own perspective on the matter.

“People said a lot of horrible things about the king, that he sponsors bandits and jihad. That’s why I went there because I don’t judge by what people says,” he said.

The activist also made a jest about forgetting the name of his recently awarded chieftaincy title, admitting that he had to look it up again after being questioned about it.

He continued by saying that he is still getting used to the duties that come with the distinction.

“Now that I’m a king, there are a lot of things I can’t do anymore. They asked me my chieftaincy title today, I’ve forgotten it already. I had to go read it again. I almost said tatashe,” he added.

VDM went on to remark that before drawing conclusions, he would rather personally confirm things than rely on what people say online.

Since then, his comments have generated conflicting responses on social media, with many Nigerians disputing his justification and talking about the importance of his chieftaincy title.
