Believing internet rumours that “pretty girls make money easily,” a young woman has recounted the painful reality of relocating to Lagos.
In a widely shared video on X (previously Twitter), @AsakyGRN disclosed that she used her savings to go out to clubs and rent an apartment in the hopes that guys would notice her and offer her money, but that didn’t happen.
In her words, read what she said below:
“I came to Lagos thinking I would make money just by being pretty. I rented an apartment, went clubbing, and gave it my all but men ignored me completely.”
She believed that by exploiting her appearance alone, she could recover her rent in two months.
Expecting the so-called “pretty privilege” that everyone on the internet was talking about, she went out to clubs, danced, and attempted to draw attention. However, nothing was effective.
Men paid her no attention at all. That following evening, two gorgeous and fair females showed up, and all of a sudden, guys came over to give them large sums of money.
“That’s when it hit me that I wasn’t the kind of girl Lagos men rewarded for just showing up.”
She eventually had to move in with a friend since she was having trouble paying for her rent.
Many people online reacted to her story. A commentator wrote, “Lagos will teach you in a hard way, women with unbelievable imaginations.” Another said, “The length people take risk is shocking.”
