Nkem Owoh, a veteran Nollywood actor, shared his experience of losing his brother, Bartholomew, during General Muhammadu Buhari’s military government in 1985.
In a previous interview with Arise News TV, Nkem Owoh discussed his close relationship with his late brother.
Bartholomew was one of three young Nigerians murdered by firing squad for narcotics offences not punishable by death at the time.
During his brother’s execution, Nkem Owoh, who works at Anambra Television, was overcome with emotion and wept tears.
The legendary actor explained that the most distressing part was the retroactive application of the decree, which affected his brother’s execution date.
During that time, drug-related offences were not capital crimes.
”Why would it be shifted back to include people who didn’t commit the offence before the decree?. It was a personal thing to me”, He added.
Notably, Muhammadu Buhari served as Nigeria’s military head of state from December 31, 1983, to August 27, 1985, following a coup.
It should be noted that the former Nigerian President died on July 13, 2025, at the age of 82, in a London clinic, following a lengthy illness.
Muhammadu Buhari was buried on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, according to Islamic funeral rituals.
The burial was held at his own residence about 5:50 p.m., following a military ceremonial and funeral prayers led by famous clerics.
