“I was offered ₦50,000 monthly” – Man recounts disappointing job interview with senator in Abuja

A Nigerian guy claims he was offered ₦50,000 per month as a social media manager during a job interview with a sitting senator in Abuja.

In a video posted to his TikTok profile, the man, who applied for a position with the senator’s NGO, expressed his excitement at learning that the senator would personally interview him. However, he claimed that after the politician learned he was a corps member, his attitude altered.

He initially planned to earn around ₦500,000 per month due to the senator’s fancy home, automobile, and political status.

During the interview, the senator reportedly enquired about his projected salary. Trying not to seem greedy, the man sought ₦250,000.

“This man just burst out in laughter and then he looked at the person sitting next to him and said, ‘Oh, all these Gen Zs of this generation, you people want to run before you crawl,’” he narrated.

The man claimed that the senator told him that no one in Abuja would pay him ₦200,000, but he rejected the offer and argued that ₦200,000 was the least he could accept.

He claimed that in spite of the experience, he departed with the intention of succeeding without depending on connections or politicians.

“I walked out of that place with a resolve that, you know what? I’m going to make it in Abuja without any politician’s help, without any of this connection,” he added.

He went on to say that in the end, he was able to secure greater opportunities and counselled young people not to let powerful people make them feel unworthy of such prospects.
