A Lagos commuter has stirred considerable comments online after reporting how a female passenger refused to pay her entire bus fare due to a heated discussion with a commercial bus conductor about a ₦100 balance.
The incident occurred on a danfo bus with a fare of ₦800, as reported by the individual. The woman offered the conductor ₦700, pleading with him to accept it as that was all she had.
The narrator stated that the conductor refused the payment and continuously demanded the full fare while criticising the woman. To lessen the stress, he offered to fill the ₦100 shortfall with his own change.
The woman, however, rejected the gesture, saying, “uncle, don’t pay for me. I didn’t ask for your money. Because of 100 Naira, he has insulted me enough and you still want to pay him. Didn’t you hear all the insults? Lai lai. If he can’t accept abeg, he should getaway”.
The narrator clarified that the conductor persisted in asking the woman for ₦700 even after he had collected his own change.
She refused, insisting the insults had changed the situation, saying, “never. Upon all the insults wey you give me? If I pay you 700 after those insults, make I die”.
The woman reportedly lowered her willingness to pay to ₦500 as the argument went on, claiming that the insults had effectively subtracted ₦200 from the cost.
Other passengers were amused by the strange encounter, and one allegedly asked whether the conductor could get the remaining money by praying for the woman instead.
Responding, the woman said, “Yes, he should work for his balance”.
The narrator claims that the conductor then spent a significant portion of the trip praying for the woman in an apparent attempt to get her to pay the due sum. This turned the experience into a funny moment that has since sparked discussion and laughter on social media.
