A lady was surprised when her mother reduced the price of a fish from ₦4,000 to ₦1,000 during a market visit.
The lady, who went with her mother to buy fish, was astounded by the negotiation skills she watched between her mother and the fish seller.
Her mother offered ₦2,000 instead of the seller’s initial price of ₦4,000 for one fish. While the transaction was ongoing, the lady expressed her surprise at her mother’s aggressive bargaining tactics.
The lady was surprised when her mother refused to pay the ₦2,000 she initially offered.
She said, “After the woman told her to bring money my mom said she can’t pay #2,000 for this small fish the she will pay #1,000.”

The lady was taken aback by the unexpected turn, especially because the fish salesman had asked only ₦4,000 initially.
After some negotiation, the seller decided to sell the fish to her mother for ₦1,000.
Reflecting on her experience, the lady stated that she is still perplexed as to how some ladies bargain rates so efficiently in Nigerian markets.
The encounter has generated a light-hearted discussion about the bargaining culture common in Nigerian marketplaces, with the lady appearing keen to master the method that enabled her mother secure the fish for a fraction of the original asking price.
