Social media users debated the situation, claiming that the inscription should have read “Bride’s Parents” instead. After a woman publicly defended the mother’s choice and insisted that the woman should be given full credit for funding the ceremony on her own, the discussion received attention.

Many social media users supported the mother as well, arguing that women who take care of their families on their own should be publicly honoured.

In response to the issue, the woman who posted the viewpoint online stated that she firmly believed the mother should be given credit for her actions at the wedding ceremony.

“This woman sponsored her daughter’s wedding from A-Z. On the day of the wedding, souvenirs were distributed and the tag read ‘Courtesy Bride’s Mum.’ People are saying she shouldn’t have done that, rather she should have printed ‘Bride’s Parents.’ I stand with her like mad,” she said.

She was supported by a number of commenters who contended that the person who managed the event’s finances should be honoured.

The episode occurred months after similar internet discussions on parental responsibilities surfaced at weddings and graduation ceremonies, where single moms were publicly commended for raising and supporting their children on their own despite financial difficulties.
