A woman drew outrage online after breaking down in tears while explaining how rejecting her mother’s advice led to her becoming a single mother of two without a husband.
In a viral video spreading on X (previously Twitter), the woman known as Goodness spoke eloquently about the decisions she made in her youth and the regrets she now harbours.
Goodness revealed that during her early university years, she received multiple marriage proposals but turned them all down. She considered she was too young and lovely to settle down at the moment.
She stated that her mother continuously persuaded her not to reject every man who approached her for marriage, warning her that she might eventually regret it.
However, she stated that she ignored the signals, assuming that marriage could wait.
While fighting back tears in the video, read what she said below:
“Sometimes, it’s good to listen to your parent, it’s good to listen to them. My reason is this, I don’t want to cry.
My reason is this, I can remember when I was in my first semester in the university, even my send semester, my third semester, so many men were coming for my hand in marriage, I was doing guy, and thinking that I’m too beautiful.
I don’t want any man to tie me down, let me enjoy my life. My mum called me and was like, ‘Goodness you don’t need to reject all the men that want your hand in marriage’.
‘You don’t need to reject all at the same time, may be God want you to settle down, may be God want you to marry that time’, I told my mum marry for what, what am I using marriage to do, what is marriage, I’m too beautiful.
Anytime I want to marry, I will marry. That’s what I told my mum. I told her no man will say no to me when I really want to settle down that I very beautiful.
I was doing guy, rejecting all the men and my mum tried to talk to me, she tried to make me understand that may be when I will want husband I will not see it.
My mum told me ‘all the men that are coming for you can not be bad, look for one, may be God want you to marry’. I never listened to my mum.
I refused to listen to my mummy, now, today, I’m here, single mother of two looking for husband.”
