Rauf Aregbesola, a former interior minister and former governor of Osun State, has stated that he served as governor for eight years without having a personal home.

Speaking to the public on a video, Aregbesola insisted that he did not purchase a home while in government and claimed to have stayed with a friend during that time.

“I’m the first governor in the whole of Nigeria that served for eight years without owning a house. I squatted with my friend for those eight years on my father’s land.

“These politicians, that politicians. Whosoever says I am lying should come and show me the houses I owned during my tenure,” he said.

The former governor insisted that anyone who questioned his assertion should present proof of any property he bought during his tenure.

Aregbesola insisted that detractors should concentrate on verifiable facts rather than presumptions about politicians profiting themselves while in office, saying his record in office speaks for itself.

Since then, his comments have sparked internet reactions. While some Nigerians disagreed with his statement, others discussed the lifestyles of public office holders both during and after their tenure in office.
