Nigerian entrepreneur and social media personality Laura Ikeji has opened up about how a friendship ended after she declined to post a Cartier bracelet she received as a birthday gift.
In a video shared online, Laura revealed that the woman, who was first her customer before they became friends, surprised her with the pricey bracelet on her birthday in March 2025.
Laura said she was excited about the gift and immediately shared the news with her friends. But things soured when the woman started pressing her on when she would flaunt it on social media.
“A few days later, she sent me a message. She said, ‘When are you posting it?’ I’m like, posting what?” Laura recalled.
She noted that while she would have gladly shown off such a gift in the past, she no longer feels the need to put every personal moment online.
“Before now, the Laura that I know would post that bracelet ten times and tag the person that gifted me ten times. Now, I’m very happy, but not as loud as I used to be,” she said.
Laura added that being in her late 30s and focused on growing her business has changed how she views public displays of gifts and wealth.
She said the woman later asked if her refusal to post the bracelet meant she thought it was fake, even though she had already sent her the receipt.
Laura explained that she even sent the woman a photo of herself wearing the bracelet to prove her appreciation, but the dispute dragged on.
According to her, she eventually asked if the woman wanted the gift back.
“She said, ‘Do whatever you want.’ So automatically, I knew that she wanted her bracelet back,” Laura said.
She said she then packaged the bracelet and had her driver return it to the woman.
“And that was how the friendship ended,” she concluded.
