“I Hope You’re Enjoying the Prison” – Omoyele Sowore Meets El-Rufai In Court, Mocks Him

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore caused a stir outside an Abuja court on Monday after confronting former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai during proceedings linked to El-Rufai’s bail application.

In a video that has since gone viral on social media, Sowore was seen addressing El-Rufai as security operatives escorted the former governor into the court premises. The activist openly mocked the embattled politician, saying, “You are the one in prison, Sir, enjoy it,” drawing immediate reactions from people gathered at the scene.

The incident unfolded amid heightened political tension surrounding El-Rufai’s ongoing legal troubles, which have continued to attract nationwide attention. Supporters, journalists and security personnel crowded the court environment as several political figures arrived for the proceedings, creating a tense atmosphere outside the courthouse.

Sowore, known for his outspoken criticism of political leaders and government institutions, appeared visibly confrontational during the encounter. His remarks quickly sparked debate online, with many Nigerians expressing mixed reactions over the statement and the broader political implications of the case.

While some social media users defended Sowore’s comments as a reflection of public frustration toward political elites, others criticised the activist’s approach, arguing that such remarks were unnecessary during a legal process.

The confrontation adds to a growing history of public clashes involving prominent politicians and activists in Nigeria’s political space, further fueling discussions about accountability, power and political rivalry in the country.
