“I have come to understand that he has done wrong” – actress Yvonne Jegede appeals to the military for the release of social critic, Justice Crack

Yvonne Jegede has joined calls demanding the release of social critic Justice Mark Chidiebere, popularly known as Justice Crack.

Justice Crack was arrested on April 26 after posting a video criticising the Nigerian Army over alleged poor food rations given to soldiers. Military authorities accused him of attempting to incite soldiers against their superiors.

He was later arraigned in court on Monday, May 4, and remanded in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) until May 25 for the hearing of his bail application and the commencement of trial proceedings.

In a video shared online, Yvonne Jegede acknowledged that Justice Crack may have crossed certain boundaries by speaking on military matters, but appealed for leniency and forgiveness on his behalf.

The case has continued to spark widespread reactions online, with supporters arguing for freedom of expression while others insist that military discipline and national security concerns must be respected.

‘’I am humbly begging for the release of Justice Crack. I have come to understand that he has done wrong. I have come to understand that a civilian should not dabble into military stuff. I have come to understand that and because of that, I am going to say on his behalf, , his family, his wife and his kids, his friends, associates, please release him back to his family. We have established that he is wrong and I am sorry on everybody’s behalf”

‘’Let’s not lie, things are not going well in Nigeria and this young man was just trying to pitch in, to see how we can get better as a country but I guess, we did not know that anything that has to do with the military is out of touch for we civilians, and so we are sorry. I am sorry on his behalf” she said
