Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has expressed concern with the rising cost of diesel, claiming that it is becoming unsustainable for enterprises.
In a video clip uploaded online, the director stated that he spent ₦11 million on fuel to power operations at KAP Village, one of his ventures.
Afolayan cites rising diesel prices (about ₦1,500 per litre) as a major challenge in managing operational expenditures.
“I have been sad because I can’t cope with ₦1,500 per litre for diesel. In one of the businesses that I run, KAP Village, I spent ₦11 million in just 4–5 weeks on diesel,” he said.
He explained that, despite the facility’s solar power installation, the cost of running operations remained quite high, particularly in Lagos, where businesses frequently rely on generators owing to irregular electricity supplies.
Afolayan highlighted that the recent increase in diesel rates from over ₦1,000 to over ₦1,500 per litre has worsened the situation, especially for fuel purchased on credit and paid back later.
In an appeal for help, he urged financial institutions and government organisations to give loans that would enable enterprises like his to modernise their solar systems and reduce their reliance on diesel for power.
