Edo attack: “If Peter Obi was shot, nothing would happen” – Afenifere chieftain warns

Akin Fapohunda, director of the Yoruba socio-cultural group Afenifere, has advised former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi to be cautious about his safety following a recent incident tied to political activity.

His statement comes following claims that Obi’s convoy was ambushed by suspected gunmen during an African Democratic Congress (ADC) rally in Benin City.

The incident reportedly occurred during the formal admission of a political person to the party.

Speaking on the incident, read what Fapohunda said below:

“Assassination is not a big deal when you are contesting power with people who are not civilized.”

In response to the incident, he also lambasted Edo State’s political leadership, claiming that certain politicians have a “village mentality.”

The Afenifere chieftain also warned Obi against putting his life in danger in the pursuit of political ambition.

“If Peter Obi was shot, what would happen? Nothing will happen. Anybody who dies, just dies. Peter Obi better protect himself and not just die in vain. If he dies, nothing will happen. People will only protest for a few days and nothing will happen.”

The declaration has heightened awareness of the security threats involved with political activity in Nigeria, particularly as the country prepares for another election cycle.
