“I am running for presidency” – Wizkid announces, unveils new Political Party

Nigerian music singer Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, often known as Wizkid, has ignited heated debate online when a video leaked showing him hinting at a prospective presidential bid.

The video, which premiered online on January 8, 2026, showed the artist in a relaxing setting with family and friends, speaking about politics in a lighthearted but assertive manner.

In the viral video, Wizkid stunned many by openly discussing running for Nigeria’s top office.

The scene instantly went viral, with fans and sceptics arguing about whether it was a joke or a serious long-term plan.

In his words, read what he said below:

Wizkid political party. WPP. I am running for presidency in the year 20…”

He did not specify the year of the election, leaving room for interpretation.

Wizkid’s unveiling of his own political platform garnered even more attention than the presidential tease.

He said that his movement will not be in line with the main Nigerian parties, such as the Labour Party, PDP, or APC.

Rather, he established a brand-new party called the Wizkid Political Party, or WPP for short.

The video was released just hours after Wizkid achieved a remarkable feat, which caused some people to take notice.

The Starboy solidified his position at the top of African music on January 8, 2026, when he became the first African musician to exceed 10 billion Spotify plays.

Many saw the announcement as symbolic, and the milestone gave the event more significance.

Outside of the music industry, Wizkid has also been in the news. After playing at the Lagos Motor Boat Club’s New Year’s Eve gala, he was recently admitted as an honorary member.

The club’s Commodore presented the performer with a club hat and diploma during the ceremony, and pictures from the occasion were posted online.

Founded in 1950, the Lagos Motor Boat Club is renowned for being a private meeting place for business executives, royals, and affluent Nigerians.

Prominent individuals like Ogiame Atuwatse, the Olu of Warri, and Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi are among the members.

Wizkid’s entrance was hailed by club officials as a celebration of cultural and social synergy, underscoring his expanding impact into elite social networks and beyond entertainment.

Wizkid hasn’t yet made it clear if his remarks about the president were serious or humorous.
