“He called me a stupid boy” – Eedris Abdulkareem recounts clash with Obasanjo over ‘Jagajaga’ song

Veteran Nigerian rapper Eedris Abdulkareem has revealed an unexpected account of his meeting with former president Olusegun Obasanjo regarding his contentious hit song “Jagajaga.”

In an interview with The Honest Bunch podcast, he disclosed that the drama started when he got a call telling him that Obasanjo was talking about him on TV.

The rapper claimed he was thrilled that his message had reached the president at the time rather than offended.

A few months later, he was given the chance to perform at an international event in Europe that Obasanjo and other dignitaries were present at.

“Three months later, my friend, the German ambassador, reached out and said I should come perform at an event where the president would be. When it was my turn, before I got on stage, the DJ started playing ‘Jagajaga’,” he added.

He revealed that Obasanjo initially danced to the song, unaware of what was playing, before suddenly realizing it was the same track he had criticized.

“At that moment, Obasanjo didn’t know the song. He was dancing. A few minutes later, it dawned on him that it was ‘Nigeria Jagajaga’. He got upset immediately, stood up and travelled back to Nigeria,” he concluded.
